Westpac Altitude Credit Card Changes: What You Need to Know
Major devaluation of the Altitude Reward Program
Hey friends,
Starting 1 August 2025, Westpac is overhauling its Altitude credit card earn rates and introducing monthly points-earning caps across its Altitude Rewards, Qantas, and Velocity card ranges.
This will, unfortunately, result in a pretty significant devaluation of the program. Here's a breakdown of the key changes:
đ New Monthly Spend Caps and Bonus Categories
Westpac is moving from flat earning structures to tiered earning rates based on spending categories and monthly caps.
Once you exceed the monthly spend cap, your earn rate drops significantly.
Youâll need to be more strategic with your spending to maximise points, especially if youâre a high spender. International and travel-related purchases will earn more, but only up to a limit.

My thoughts on these changes
The credit card reward space is, unfortunately, being squeezed very hard by the banks and credit providers at the moment.
With the continued devaluation of multiple programs, increases to the time between being able to sign up for new credit cards and earn sign-up bonuses, the golden days of the credit card rewards are well and truly gone!
There definitely is still value to be had, but weâve just got to work harder to find it these days.
