Qantas Reward Program to Undergo Significant Changes!
Hey friends,
So some big updates are coming to Qantas’s frequent flyer reward program. Within weeks, Qantas will look to launch a new flight reward product to reduce the number of times its members are unable to redeem their points on the flights they want.
Qantas To Launch ‘Reward+’ Dynamic Pricing
Qantas Frequent Flyer will launch a dynamic flight reward product within weeks. The new redemption offering is yet to be named and has been designed to be a combination of Qantas’ existing Classic Flight Reward and Points Plus Pay. This new program aims to improve availability while also offering attractive value.
How I expect it to work is that once existing Classic Flight Rewards are no longer available for a specific flight, then additional reward flights will be made available but require more frequent flyer points to book (which is where the dynamic element comes into play)
The same Classic Flight Reward fare rules will apply to the new program, in addition to identical taxes and fees charged on those redemptions. The only difference between a Classic Flight Award and the new program is the availability and price. So while the new program will be easier to book, you’ll need more points.
Points Plus Pay Now A Form Of Payment
Finally! Qantas has moved ‘Points Plus Pay’ to its new home - the payment page. Looks like Qantas is finally getting with the program and prioritizing a better customer experience.
Before this change, trying to find a Classic Flight Reward on the Qantas website was quite confusing. You'd select 'Use Points' when doing your initial search, and when the search results came through you’d need to toggle off 'Points Plus Pay'. If you forgot this step, you'd be looking at million-point trips.
There’s also a revised calendar layout, which shows true reward flights and not those overinflated Points Plus Pay options. The familiar red ribbon plus added text ensures you will know which dates have Classic Flight Reward availability in the travel class you have selected.
