More Credit Card Devaluations & Velocity Frequent Flyer Offer
Hey friends—hope you’re having an awesome week!
So there’s been more devaluations occurring within the credit card reward space and some new offers to take advantage of, so let’s get into it.
🛬 CommBank Awards Cuts Nearly All Transfer Partners
For anyone that is currently holding a Commonwealth Bank award credit card, big changes are coming.
From 1 October 2025, you'll only be able to transfer your points to Virgin Australia Velocity. All other airline and hotel partners—like KrisFlyer, Flying Blue, Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton, and more—are being removed, along with redemptions via the eShop, Flight Centre, and Points Plus Pay.
The worse part about all of this is that customers weren’t even notified of these changes. Instead they simply updating their award T&C’s and also their CommBank Awards Program website. So unless you are someone who reads the T&C’s for updates (which is no-one) or you were just browsing the CommBank Awards Program website (probably very few people) you wouldn’t be aware of this! And you could end up being stuck with a whole bunch of CommBank reward points after October that you can only transfer to Velocity.
This is a serious devaluation of flexibility. If you’ve been banking CommBank points with multi-program travel plans in mind, it’s time to transfer them out before October otherwise you’ll be locked into Velocity.
💳 Velocity Frequent Flyer Offer: 20,000 Bonus Points/Double Earn Rate
On a brighter note: Velocity has just launched a generous offer for new credit card signups. Choose between:
Option 1: 20,000 bonus Points - That's on top of the individual card sign up bonus offers available from participating partners
Option 2: Double Earn Rate - Earn twice as many Points for 6 months (capped at 60,000 Points) on your everyday spending in addition to the individual card sign up bonus offers available from participating partners
Velocity typically run these promotions twice a year (this is their second time running it this year) so this will likely be the last time this year this promotion runs.
If you’ve been thinking of signing up for a new credit card linked to Velocity, then now’s a perfect moment to capitalise. The bonus or double-earn makes Velocity-linked cards extra appealing.
